Mike Waltz, appointed as National Security Adviser by President-elect Donald Trump, stated in a CBS interview on Sunday that Hamas will not retain control of the Gaza Strip.
“Hamas will never rule Gaza – we’ve made it very clear to the Israelis…if they need to go back in, we’re with them if Hamas doesn’t live up to the terms of this agreement,” Waltz asserted.
When asked about Trump’s priorities upon taking office, Waltz explained that the president-elect’s initial actions would include signing executive orders focused on immigration and energy.
Discussing the potential ban of TikTok in the United States, Waltz said, “Trump needs time to sort out the problems with TikTok.” He added that unlike the previous administration, Trump’s team is open to the possibility of continued Chinese ownership of the platform, provided there is “a firewall that will ensure that data remains protected on US soil.”
Earlier in the day, NBC reported that Trump was considering the temporary relocation of some of Gaza’s two million residents to facilitate rebuilding efforts in the region. According to the report, an official from Trump’s transition team mentioned Indonesia as one of the countries being considered for this relocation.
During the ceasefire, Trump’s Middle East envoy, Steve Witkoff, is expected to spend an extended period in the region, ensuring that all parties adhere to the agreement. It was also reported that Witkoff is exploring the possibility of visiting the Gaza Strip as part of his mission.
