[Update below.] Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu has announced that Israel has not yet received the list of hostages scheduled for release by Hamas later that day, causing a delay in the ceasefire’s commencement.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, Netanyahu conducted a security assessment overnight to address the “delay in receiving the list of hostages expected to be released.”

Netanyahu directed the IDF to postpone the start of the ceasefire, initially set for 8:30 a.m., until Hamas provided the promised list of hostages. “The ceasefire… will not begin until Israel has the list of hostages to be released, which Hamas has pledged to provide,” the statement noted.

The plan included the release of three female hostages from Gaza on the first day of the ceasefire. However, Israeli officials indicated that Hamas had failed to provide their names by the previous afternoon, as stipulated in the agreement.

UPDATE: After Netanyahu issued his statement about the delay in the ceasefire, Hamas attributed the hold-up to “technical reasons.”

In its statement, Hamas reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire agreement, stating it “confirms its commitment to the terms of the ceasefire agreement.”

Under the agreement, Hamas was supposed to provide the names of the hostages at least 24 hours before their scheduled release, which was expected to occur at approximately 4:30 p.m. that day. Despite this requirement, the group had yet to specify which three of the 98 hostages were to be released.
