Over the years, there has been considerable tension between President-elect Donald Trump and former President Barack Obama. However, Trump remarked on Thursday, following the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter, that they “probably do” like each other. This statement came after a video went viral showing the two presidents chatting and laughing together at the state funeral, according to NBC News.

“I didn’t realize how friendly it looked,” Trump said to a reporter at his Mar-a-Lago club in Florida on Thursday.

“I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do,” Trump continued. “We have a little different philosophies, right? But we probably do. I don’t know. We just got along. But I got along with just about everybody.”

Trump also mentioned that he, Obama, and other former and current leaders gathered backstage before taking their seats and that “we all got along very well.”

When asked about the content of his conversation with Obama, Trump did not go into details.

Obama, for his part, has not publicly commented on their discussion.

The two have frequently exchanged criticisms in the past, with Trump notably promoting the “birther” theory about Obama, questioning his U.S. birth. He has also described Obama as an “ineffective” and “terrible” president, and in October, he called Michelle Obama, who did not attend the Carter funeral, “nasty.”

The Obamas have also taken aim at Trump, especially during the previous presidential campaign. Obama criticized Trump as a “78-year-old billionaire who has not stopped whining about his problems since he rode down his golden escalator nine years ago,” while Michelle Obama warned that the consequences of a Trump re-election would be “brutally serious.”

Despite their differences, there have been instances where both Trump and Obama spoke positively of each other. In August, Trump told CNN that he liked Obama, respected him and his wife, and considered the former president a “nice gentleman.”

Obama, who welcomed Trump to the White House in 2016 after his first victory, described their conversation at the time as “wide-ranging” and “excellent.”

Trump, after their meeting, expressed his appreciation, telling Obama, “It was a great honor being with you.”
