It is with great sadness that Matzav.com reports the petirah of Rav Mordechai Zev Jofen zt”l, Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Yosef of Flatbush, Brooklyn.

A brilliant talmid chochom whose unparalleled mastery of Shas and poskim was a testament to his hasmadah and ahavas haTorah, Rav Jofen lived a life devoted entirely to the pursuit of limud haTorah.

A descendant of a distinguished line of gedolei Torah, Rav Mordechai Zev was a grandson of Rav Avraham Jofen zt”l and a son of Rav Yaakov Yoffen zt”l. He was also a great-grandson of the Alter of Novardok, a lineage that imbued him with a mesorah that defined his entire life.

Together with his close chaver, Rav Yaakov Drillman, Rav Mordechai Zev led Yeshiva Bais Yosef with great chochmah, humility, and vision, fostering an environment where limud haTorah flourishes and talmidim thrive.

Rav Jofen is survived by his rebbetzin and their children, including his son, Rav Moshe Jofen, rosh Yyeshiva of Yeshiva Bais Yosef.

The levayah will take place on Motzoei Shabbos at 7:30 p.m. at Yeshivas Bais Yosef, located at 1502 Avenue N in Brooklyn, NY.
