Rabbi Nachman Holtzberg is no stranger to the horrors of terrorism. In 5769 (2008), he tragically lost his son, Rabbi Gabi Holtzberg, along with his daughter-in-law, Rivky, who were killed in the Chabad House attack in Mumbai, India. Now, his grandson, Rabbi Tzvi Kogan, who was married to his granddaughter, Mrs. Rivky Kogan (nee Spielman), has been murdered by terrorists in the UAE.

In a radio interview with Kol Berama station, Rabbi Holtzberg spoke about the immense pain of losing his grandson, who he said reminded him so much of his late son Gabi, and reflected on his emotional response to this heartbreaking loss.

“We don’t question Hashem,” Rabbi Holtzberg began, “but this is a very difficult test. Every shliach should feel as if the Rebbe’s own son was killed.”

Rabbi Holtzberg spoke with great pride about his grandson, whom he described as a true inspiration. “He always reminded me of Gavriel Hy”d. He never missed a shiur, never missed an opportunity to bring others closer, no matter how busy he was,” Rabbi Holtzberg said, emphasizing the depth of Rabbi Kogan’s dedication.

“Baruch Hashem, we have more shluchim in our family. Despite the fears, we won’t stop. We will overcome the darkness by adding even more light. We will be an example for Jews around the world,” he added, conveying his unwavering commitment to continue spreading light in the face of tragedy.

A close friend of Rabbi Kogan, Ari Katz, shared a touching memory with Ynet, recalling how Tzvi wore Rabbi Gabi Holtzberg’s kapota at his wedding two years ago.

Before the chuppah, Ari had remarked to Tzvi that the groom typically wears a new suit for the occasion. Tzvi’s response was deeply poignant: “If we die, then we’ll die al kiddush Hashem…”
