Sunday morning, an interesting and moving birth took place at the Maayaney Hayeshua hospital in Bnei Brak, when a woman from the city gave birth to quadruplets: three daughters and a son, all of whom are healthy and in good condition, boruch Hashem.
Details behind this remarkable birth were shared on the Siach Yitzchok hotline. In the recording, Rabbi Chaim Malin is heard speaking with his grandfather, the noted posek Rav Yitzchok Zilberstein, and recounting the events that led up to the birth:
At the beginning of the pregnancy, the doctors advised the couple to have some of the fetuses removed due to severe fetal distress and a high risk to their lives. A rov they initially consulted also recommended following the doctors’ advice.
However, the couple turned to Rav Zilberstein, who regularly receives difficult and life-altering questions. Aside from being one of the most prominent halachic authorities in general, Rav Zilberstein is particularly renowned for his expertise and wisdom in medical matters. He has served as the chairman of the Halachic Committee at Maayaney Hayeshua Hospital for many years and also gives a weekly shiur to doctors at the hospital.
Rav Zilberstein, who delved into the details of the case, concluded, based on the information provided, that there was not a significant danger in continuing the pregnancy as it was, and advised them to maintain the current situation. He blessed them that all the quadruplets would be born healthy and whole.
Last Thursday, when Rav Zilberstein arrived for his regular shiur to the doctors at Maayaney Hayeshua, the couple, along with the hospital director, Rabbi Yosef Hofner, waited for him to consult on whether to proceed with inducing labor. The doctors were very uncertain and said, “Only a novi could decide here…” After carefully considering the question, Rav Zilberstein ultimately ruled that it was better to do nothing and wait rather than induce labor.
Indeed, Sunday morning, the woman gave birth without induction to all four children—three daughters and a son—all of whom are healthy and whole, creating a stir throughout the hospital due to this rare birth, the first of its kind at Maayaney Hayeshua.
The medical team expressed their admiration for Rav Zilberstein’s immense influence in making life-and-death decisions, taking the great responsibility of not reducing the fetuses, and as it turned out, all the children were born healthy and whole.
Rav Zilberstein, upon hearing the conclusion of the story from his grandson, responded with great emotion, saying, “What wonderful news, what wonderful news… How beautiful… Thank you very much, a good man brings good news…”
