A senior defense official stated on Thursday that Israel is currently closer than it has been in a year to finalizing an agreement with Hamas.
The official described the potential agreement as a “humanitarian” arrangement that would involve the release of hostages, a 42-day ceasefire, the release of imprisoned terrorists, and other significant concessions from Israel.
“There will be a price to the deal, but we are convinced that after 42 days we’ll know how to go back to fighting,” the official emphasized, acknowledging the challenges ahead.
On the issue of Iran, the official highlighted that conditions are now ideal for launching an attack on Iranian nuclear sites. “Iran was never exposed to an attack like it is now,” he declared, suggesting a shift in Israel’s readiness.
The official also addressed Hezbollah’s stance, stating that the group appears willing to negotiate. Discussions are underway to resolve outstanding matters, and he expressed confidence that an agreement with Lebanon could benefit Israel and bolster regional security.
Regarding humanitarian aid in Gaza, the official mentioned ongoing talks with a large company that would take responsibility for distributing assistance and ensuring its security. He clarified that neither the IDF nor the Palestinian Authority would play a role in managing the aid distribution system after the hostilities conclude.
