One of Puerto Rico’s nonpartisan “shadow” Senators, is planning to officially announce her endorsement of former President Donald Trump at his upcoming rally in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday.

According to NBC News’s Dasha Burns,  Buxo will be speaking at the rally, which will be “heavy on Puerto Rican speakers,.”   Journalist Jack Posobiec also reported that Buxo will announce her support for Trump.

Buxo was elected in 2021 to the delegation that advocates for statehood.  In defending her endorsement, Buxo posted a statement from Trump on Monday, saying Trump is “firmly committed to the process where Puerto Ricans might resolve their status according to Constitutional and Congressional protocols.”

Trump continued: “As president I will do my part to insure that Congress follows the Constitution.

The will of the Puerto Rican people in any status referendum should be considered as Congress follows through on any desired change in status for Puerto Rico, including statehood.”

Buxo wrote on X that Trump is the candidate Puerto Rico “needs.”

Trump’s upcoming rally on Tuesday, which is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Eastern time, comes as Democrats have tried to capitalize on a joke by comedian Tony Hinchcliffe at Trump’s recent rally at Madison Square Garden, targeting Puerto Rico.  In the joke, Hinchcliffe referred to the island as “a “floating island of garbage.”

Trump has since moved to distance himself from Hinchcliffe, telling ABC News he does not the comedian, saying: “I don’t know him, someone put him up there. I don’t know who he is.”

Trump added that he did not see the comedy performance at the MSG rally.

While Democrats have attacked Trump over the joke, it is yet to be seen if it will have any impact among Latino voters in this years Presidential election.
