Israeli Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu held a discussion with French President Emmanuel Macron earlier today.

During the conversation, the Prime Minister expressed his strong opposition to a one-sided ceasefire, arguing that such a measure would not alter the security situation in Lebanon and would merely restore the status quo. He stressed that Israel is taking action against the Hezbollah terrorist group to prevent it from posing a threat to the safety of Israeli citizens along the northern border, ensuring that they can return home without fear.

Netanyahu went on to state that Israel could not accept any agreement that does not meet this objective, nor one that fails to prevent Hezbollah from rearming and reorganizing.

The Prime Minister also voiced his surprise at President Macron’s plans to organize a conference in Paris focusing on the situation in Lebanon, which would involve countries like South Africa and Algeria. These nations, according to Netanyahu, are actively working to strip Israel of its basic right to self-defense and, by extension, denying Israel’s fundamental right to exist.

Following their exchange, the Prime Minister’s Office released a statement which read: “A reminder to the French President: It was not a UN decision that established the State of Israel but the victory achieved in the War of Independence, secured by the blood of our heroic fighters, many of whom were Holocaust survivors, including those from the Vichy regime in France.”

“It would also be worthwhile to recall that in recent decades, the UN has approved hundreds of antisemitic resolutions aimed at denying the one and only Jewish state’s right to exist and its ability to defend itself.”
