Iran’s highest authority, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, issued a warning to Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah to leave Lebanon just days before Nasrallah was killed in an Israeli airstrike. Now, Khamenei is deeply concerned about Israeli spies having penetrated high levels of the Iranian government, according to information from three separate Iranian insiders.

Following the strike on Hezbollah’s rigged communication devices on September 17, Khamenei sent a personal emissary to urgently advise the Hezbollah leader to relocate to Iran. Intelligence reports had indicated that Israel had infiltrators within Hezbollah and was plotting to assassinate him, according to one of the sources, a senior official from Iran, who relayed the details to Reuters.

The emissary, the official said, was Brigadier General Abbas Nilforoushan, a high-ranking officer within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Nilforoushan was reportedly in Nasrallah’s bunker when Israeli forces bombed it on September 27, resulting in both of their deaths.

Since Saturday, Khamenei has been staying in a secure facility in Iran. He personally authorized the launch of approximately 200 missiles toward Israel on Tuesday, according to a senior Iranian figure. This missile strike was carried out in retaliation for the deaths of Nasrallah and Nilforoushan, as confirmed in a statement from the Revolutionary Guards.
