The Israeli Chief Rabbinate has officially announced that the next Sephardic chief rabbi of Israel will be Rav Dovid Yosef.

Rav Yosef currently serves as the rabbi of Har Nof in Yerushalayim. A brilliant talmid chochom, Rav Yosef is a member of the Moetzet Chachmei Hatorah of Shas and head of Bais Medrash Yechaveh Da’as.

He follows in the footsteps of his brother, Rav Yitzchok Yosef, who has just finished his term in the same role. Their father, Chacham Ovadiah Yosef, also held the position of Sephardic Chief Rabbi.

On Sunday afternoon, around 140 members of the Chief Rabbi Election Assembly cast their votes in Yerushalayim.

Simultaneously, the election for the Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi ended in a tie, necessitating a subsequent round of voting to be held tonight, where all candidates will participate. The results of this second round are not anticipated until after 11 p.m.
