Following the elimination of the arch-terrorist Ibrahim Aqil in an airstrike in Beirut on Friday, the Saudi news network Al-Hadath is reporting that Hezbollah has chosen the next commander of it’s Radwan forces – Ali Reda Abbas.

Abbas was the deputy of Aqul, who was killed along with a large number of other Hezbollah commanders in the strike on Friday.

The new second in command will be Ali Mussa Daqduq, who established a Hezbollah unit on the Syrian side of the Golan Heights. His son was eliminated in that area in an Israeli airstrike.

Abbas, also known as Abu Hussein Barish, is from the town of Barish near Tyre in Southern Lebanon. He has largely avoided media attention despite acting as a spokesman for Hezbollah. The Al-Hadath report claims both he and Aqil survived assassination attempts int he 90’s.

Abbas was trained in Iran, and was accused of kidnapping and murdering 5 US soldiers in Karbala, Iraq, in 2007. He was released from Iraqi prison in 2012, and returned to Lebanon.
