Back in June 2022, the state of New York suspended certain fuel and motor taxes to help individuals out a little bit at the pump. But as 2023 begins, Mark Gruba, AAA communications specialist, warns that the break at the pump might be ending.
“There’s been a huge drop in the price of gas, but when you start adding this tax back in, come the first of January, people are going to see an increase at the pump, no question about it,” he said, as per Spectrum News.
And Gruba says everyone is starting to see it.
“You’re looking at the same dynamic statewide. Prices were much higher in June than they are now,” he said. “We’re beginning to see some slowing in terms of the drop of price of gas. Gas prices are down 25 cents from where they were a month ago at this time. But that drop is starting to slow a little bit, and we’re starting to see some signs that it may be leveling off or we may even see a bit of a bump into the new year.
