Top officials in the Blue and White alliance, led by Defense Minister Benny Gantz, will reportedly abandon the party or retire from politics as the center-left faction continues to hemorrhage support ahead of the March 2021 general election.

According to Hebrew-language broadcaster Channel 12, the senior officials include Foreign Minister Gabi Ashkenazi, Justice Avi Nissenkorn, and Science and Technology Minister Izhar Shay, all of whom plan to exit Gantz’s party in the coming weeks and months.

Blue and White, which currently holds 33 seats in the Knesset (Israeli parliament), is projected to win five or six in the March 23 elections, according to current polls.

Some political analysts believe the former IDF chief of staff may not even cross the electoral threshold of 3.25% of the vote.

Some members of the party are considering joining other alliances from different political backgrounds such as the centrist Yesh Atid led by Yair Lapid, or the newly minted right-wing “New Hope” party led by longtime Likud lawmaker Gideon Saar.
