During a press conference on Thursday, chaos ensued when Secretary of State Antony Blinken faced intense criticism following the announcement of a cease-fire agreement and a deal regarding hostages between Israel and Hamas. The uproar led to State Department staff physically escorting reporters out of the briefing room after accusations were leveled at Blinken for allegedly allowing what some described as “genocide” in Gaza.
Max Blumenthal, a journalist for Grayzone News, left the briefing after being prompted by department aides. Meanwhile, independent reporter Sam Husseini was forcibly removed after he and Blumenthal expressed outrage over Blinken’s failure to secure a cease-fire earlier.
“Why did you keep the bombs flowing when we had a deal in May?” Blumenthal demanded. “Why did you allow my friends’ homes in Gaza to be destroyed?”
Husseini was arrested and carried out of the room while Blinken continued speaking. “You pontificate about a free press!” he shouted. “I am asking questions after being told by [spokesman] Matt Miller that he will not answer my questions,” Husseini yelled as he was escorted out.
“Criminal! Why aren’t you in The Hague! Why aren’t you in The Hague! Why aren’t you in The Hague!” Husseini continued to shout. His repeated mention of The Hague likely referred to the International Criminal Court, which is located in the Netherlands.
