President-elect Donald Trump has once again taken aim at the “incompetent pols” in Los Angeles and California over the ongoing wildfires that are claiming lives and destroying homes.

“The fires are still raging in L.A.; the incompetent pols have no idea how to put them out,” Trump shared on Truth Social early Sunday. “Thousands of magnificent houses are gone, and many more will soon be lost. There is death all over the place. This is one of the worst catastrophes in the history of our country. “They just can’t put out the fires. What’s wrong with them?”

Although Governor Gavin Newsom has been the main target of Trump’s criticisms, the post also extended his rebuke to other officials after Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chair Kathryn Barger sent a letter to Trump on Friday urging him to visit the area impacted by the fires.

“I’ve sent a letter to President-Elect @realDonaldTrump inviting him to engage in wildfire recovery efforts and to visit the county to see the impact firsthand,” Barger shared in a post on X alongside screenshots of her letter. “The White House’s engagement allows for the rapid deployment of federal resources, including emergency personnel and financial assistance.”

Barger’s letter encouraged Trump to show support for the first responders working tirelessly to protect lives and property.

“By accepting this invitation, Mr. President-Elect, you will join us in supporting our citizenry and thanking our heroic first responders, who have risked their own lives to save others,” Barger wrote. “We would also ask you, as our president, to stand with the people of Los Angeles County as we set our course to rebuild. Your presence would be deeply felt and appreciated.”

Trump had previously stood alongside local leaders and Newsom during his first term, after the devastating Woolsey Fire in Malibu.

“We would be greatly encouraged, and our success enhanced, if you came to Los Angeles to stand with us, as you have in the past, as our president,” Barger’s letter stated.

In response to the criticism, Governor Newsom has fought back against Trump’s claims regarding mismanagement of the state’s water resources. Newsom argued that the “water restoration declaration” Trump accused him of not signing was non-existent, as reported by The New York Times.

“The governor is focused on protecting people, not playing politics, and making sure firefighters have all the resources they need,” a statement from Newsom’s office said.
