The Israeli Defense Forces have enlisted dozens of individuals of Yemeni descent who are fluent in the Yemeni dialect to aid in the country’s operations against the Houthi rebel group in Yemen, Kan News reported on Wednesday.
The individuals involved include some who immigrated to Israel from Yemen and others raised in households where Yemeni was spoken. Their role will be crucial in assisting the IDF with intelligence gathering and providing insights into Yemeni language and culture.
With the ceasefire with Hezbollah now in place, the Iranian-backed Houthi militants have emerged as a primary threat to Israel’s security. The frequent rocket attacks launched from Yemen have been putting millions of Israelis at risk, sending people into shelters almost daily, damaging property, and threatening lives across the country.

As part of this strategy, the US made it clear that missile-related sites in Yemen would be targeted, given the increasing frequency of missile launches aimed at Israel from the region.
A source familiar with the matter told Kan 11 News that President Joe Biden has authorized the US military to carry out these strikes, granting what’s known as “permissive strike authorizations.”
At the same time, the US administration has requested that Israel carefully reassess its targets in Yemen, ensuring that military sites are the only ones being targeted, and that civilian locations are avoided in the ongoing operations against the Houthi rebels.
