Agudath Israel of America proudly hosted its third annual Rockland legislative meet and greet, bringing together a bipartisan mix of elected officials with close to 150 members of the Rockland Jewish community. The event provided a unique opportunity for community members to connect face-to-face with federal, state, and local lawmakers and address pressing issues affecting the Orthodox community.

The gathering served as a platform to discuss topics such as yeshiva education, busing, security funding, tax levies, and combating antisemitism. Elected officials highlighted their efforts and ongoing collaboration with Agudath Israel to address these concerns.

Congressman Mike Lawler, unable to attend in person due to voting obligations in Washington, D.C., joined the event via Zoom. He spoke about federal legislative priorities, underscoring his commitment to addressing the needs of the Rockland community.

Rockland County District Attorney Tom Walsh emphasized the critical role of the First Amendment and the right of parents to choose the type of education their children receive. He reaffirmed his office’s dedication to protecting religious freedoms and ensuring fairness in the application of laws.

State Senator Bill Weber highlighted his partnership with Agudath Israel and Rabbi Shragi Greenbaum on key initiatives, including securing busing for over 400 Yeshiva students and conducting a study on the Foundation Aid formula. He also addressed the need to oppose unfair tax levies imposed by the Department of Education and emphasized his continued advocacy for equitable funding and support for nonpublic schools.

Newly elected Assembly Member Aron Wieder praised Agudath Israel, stating, “Agudath Israel is an organization whose very name commands respect. Their advocacy for the Jewish community is second to none, and I look forward to working closely with them.”

Assembly Member Karl Brabenec expressed enthusiasm about working with Rockland’s bipartisan delegation in Albany to advocate for the community. He emphasized the importance of unity and cooperation in addressing the unique needs of Rockland’s Orthodox Jewish population.

Town of Clarkstown Supervisor George Hoehmann concluded the program with remarks emphasizing the importance of collaboration between government and the Orthodox Jewish community. He highlighted his administration’s efforts to support the safety and well-being of all residents.

Rabbi Shragi Greenbaum, Agudath Israel’s Rockland Regional Director, reflected on the significance of the event, stating, “This annual gathering is more than just a meeting—it’s a testament to the strength of our community and the dedication of our elected officials to listen and act on our behalf. We are deeply appreciative for their partnership and commitment to addressing the challenges we face.”
