Disturbing new video has surfaced showing the moment a plane from Azerbaijan crashed today in Kazakhstan, with additional footage revealing the horrific aftermath as the injured emerged from the wreckage.

Cell phone videos show the Embraer 190 jet descending rapidly into the ground in a deadly explosion just outside of Aktau, killing 38 people. The footage also captures the chaotic moments following the crash as emergency responders rushed to the scene.

The flight, Azerbaijan Airlines Flt. J2-8243, had taken off from Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, bound for Grozny, Russia. However, the pilot deviated far off course, and it’s believed the plane may have been forced to land following a bird strike. The aircraft, which was carrying 62 passengers and five crew members, crashed on Wednesday. By Wednesday afternoon, AFP reported that 38 people had been confirmed dead, while 29 others, including two children, were found alive and taken to the hospital.

Medical personnel who spoke to Interfax confirmed that both pilots had died, and some of the survivors were reported to be in critical condition, according to Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry. One video, which gained widespread attention online and was verified by Storyful, showed the wreckage of the aircraft on the ground, with passengers dazed and stumbling around as first responders worked to help the wounded. A woman’s voice could be heard crying out, while another person with a bloodied left foot was dragged away from the destroyed plane.

Another video filmed inside the crashed plane briefly showed a bloodied head of a passenger before scanning the fractured interior of the aircraft, filled with debris and people, as agonized moans were heard.

The passengers on board included 37 citizens from Azerbaijan, 16 from Russia, six from Kazakhstan, and three from Kyrgyzstan.

The crash occurred just days after a Ukrainian drone strike in southern Russia, with drone movements between the sides having previously caused airport closures. On the morning of the crash, at least one airport had been shut down. Authorities from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Russia are all investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident.
