On Sunday, President-elect Donald Trump dismissed recent claims by Democrats referring to tech mogul Elon Musk as “President Musk.” Speaking at the conservative “America Fest” event in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump firmly stated, “No, he’s not gonna be president, that I can tell you.” He further explained, “And I’m safe, you know why? He can’t be, he wasn’t born in this country.”

The comments come after Democratic leaders suggested Musk could be seen as the “true leader” of the GOP, especially after his outspoken opposition to a stopgap spending bill. Musk has been vocal in his criticism of the measure, with Trump aligning himself with Musk’s opposition to the deal brokered by his ally, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.).

Musk voiced his disapproval of the bill on social media, writing on X, the platform he owns, “Any member of the House or Senate who votes for this outrageous spending bill deserves to be voted out in 2 years!”

During his appearance at “America Fest,” Trump reflected on Musk’s support in Pennsylvania, saying, “He went to Pennsylvania, and he stayed — stayed up there for a month, and helped us to win that state, which we won by a lot.” Trump went on to praise Musk, adding, “So he was really good.”

Last month, Trump revealed that Musk and entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy would lead the “Department of Government Efficiency” (DOGE) panel, which aims to reduce unnecessary regulations, eliminate wasteful spending, and reorganize federal agencies. According to Trump, DOGE will provide external advice and collaborate with the White House Office of Management and Budget.

Describing the initiative’s potential, Trump said, “It will become, potentially, ‘The Manhattan Project’ of our time.” He added, “Republican politicians have dreamed about the objectives of ‘DOGE’ for a very long time.”
