The Houthi-affiliated Yemeni network Al-Masirah reported a strike in Sana’a, the capital of Yemen. It has been claimed that the attack was carried out by the international coalition.
According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), “US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted precision airstrikes against a missile storage facility and a command-and-control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen, on Dec. 21 Yemen time.” CENTCOM also clarified the purpose of these strikes: “CENTCOM forces conducted the deliberate strikes to disrupt and degrade Houthi operations, such as attacks against US Navy warships and merchant vessels in the Southern Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb, and Gulf of Aden.”
During the operation, CENTCOM forces successfully intercepted multiple Houthi one-way attack uncrewed aerial vehicles (OWA UAV) as well as an anti-ship cruise missile (ASCM) over the Red Sea. The mission involved US Air Force and Navy assets, including F/A-18 aircraft. CENTCOM emphasized that “The strike reflects CENTCOM’s ongoing commitment to protect US and coalition personnel, regional partners, and international shipping.”
On Monday, CENTCOM also confirmed another strike it had carried out on December 16, targeting a Houthi facility in Sana’a. “On December 16 Yemen time, US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted a precision air strike against a key command and control facility operated by Iran-backed Houthis within Houthi-controlled territory in Sana’a, Yemen,” said a CENTCOM statement.
The statement highlighted that the facility struck was a key hub for coordinating Houthi operations, including those targeting US Navy warships and commercial vessels in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden. CENTCOM concluded, “The strike reflects CENTCOM’s ongoing commitment to protect US and coalition personnel, regional partners, and international shipping.”
