On Sunday, President-elect Donald Trump committed to initiating “the largest deportation operation in American history” immediately upon his inauguration on January 20, 2025, and also suggested that he might keep TikTok in the U.S.
Speaking to an enthusiastic audience at Turning Point Action’s AmericaFest conference in Arizona, Trump declared, “On my first day back in the Oval Office, I will sign a historic slate of executive orders to close our border to illegal aliens and stop the invasion of our country.”
He continued, saying, “And on that same day, we will begin the largest deportation operation in American history, larger even than that of President Dwight D Eisenhower.”
Throughout his 2024 campaign, the 78-year-old Trump had promised to launch a large-scale deportation initiative targeting illegal immigrants already living in the United States. He has appointed Tom Homan as his designated border czar to oversee the operation. Homan had addressed the conservative gathering earlier in the day.
Trump also boasted about his success in attracting young voters to the Republican cause and credited the social media platform TikTok for his outreach. TikTok’s parent company, ByteDance, is facing a deadline of January 19, 2025, to either sell off its U.S. operations or face a ban from the Google and Apple app stores in the country.
“We did go on TikTok. We had a great response with billions of views…and it was so beautiful to see,” Trump said, reflecting on his platform engagement.
“I said, we got to keep this sucker around a little while,” he concluded.
