Today, the Biden administration announced the cancellation of an additional $4.28 billion in student loan debt for roughly 55,000 workers in public service roles, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Education.
This latest move raises the total amount of forgiven public service loans to approximately $78 billion, benefiting nearly 1.1 million individuals, the department reported.
In a separate statement, the White House highlighted that the total number of people approved for student debt relief under President Joe Biden’s leadership has now reached nearly 5 million.
These measures are part of President Biden’s broader initiative to honor his 2020 campaign promise to provide debt relief to millions of Americans before his term ends in January.
