On Tuesday, Speaker of the US House of Representatives Mike Johnson voiced criticism towards President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris after the announcement of a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon. Johnson took to X to highlight his discontent with the Biden administration’s stance on military aid to Israel.

“While the Biden-Harris Administration celebrates this announcement, remember that it is STILL withholding weapons to Israel. This Administration put up roadblock after roadblock on Israel and dragged out this conflict. They repeatedly appeased Iran rather than show unequivocal support to our closest ally in the region. Israel’s military success has been in spite of the White House, not because of it,” Johnson stated.

He also emphasized that while hopes for peace in the region remain, it is under the leadership of former President Trump that true peace can be achieved. “We always hope for peace in the region, and still do during this 60-day ceasefire. But it is President Trump’s Administration that will pave the way to lasting peace, because peace only comes through STRENGTH,” Johnson asserted.

US Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) expressed a different view earlier on Tuesday, praising the ceasefire, which was set to take effect at 4:00 a.m. (Israel time) on Wednesday morning.

“I am very pleased to hear that a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah has been reached regarding the conflict in Lebanon. Well done to all those involved in reaching this agreement,” Graham said in a statement.

He acknowledged the efforts of the Biden administration and the role of President Trump’s support in bringing the ceasefire to fruition. “I appreciate the hard work of the Biden Administration, supported by President Trump, to make this ceasefire a reality,” Graham added.

Graham also expressed his belief that the ceasefire would safeguard Israel from further attacks and give the people of Lebanon relief from the ongoing conflict. “This ceasefire will protect Israel from another October 7th and will give the people of Lebanon a break from the fighting. My hope is that we can soon achieve a ceasefire in Gaza and allow peaceful solutions to replace endless conflict,” he concluded.

Rep. Mike Waltz, who is expected to serve as National Security Adviser in a potential new Trump administration, also reacted to the ceasefire announcement on X. He credited President Trump for the successful outcome, writing, “Everyone is coming to the table because of President Trump.”

He went on to explain that Trump’s leadership had sent a clear message to the global community about the US’s stance. “This,” he added, is because, “his resounding victory sent a clear message to the rest of the world that chaos won’t be tolerated. I’m glad to see concrete steps towards de-escalation in the Middle East.”

However, Waltz also stressed the central role of Iran in fueling regional instability. “But,” he emphasized, “let’s be clear: The Iran Regime is the root cause of the chaos and terror that has been unleashed across the region. We will not tolerate the status quo of their support for terrorism.”
