This evening, Israel’s security cabinet gave its approval to a ceasefire agreement with Hezbollah, supported by the United States, aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in Lebanon.

This groundbreaking decision calls for a 60-day suspension of hostilities, during which both the Israeli Defense Forces and Hezbollah forces are expected to withdraw from southern Lebanon.

Prime Minister Netanyahu explained that the ceasefire agreement follows Israel’s successful efforts to significantly weaken Hezbollah by targeting its leadership, forces, infrastructure, and concealed bunkers along the border.

Under the terms of the deal, a monitoring committee consisting of representatives from five nations, with the United States in charge, will oversee the de-escalation process. The agreement also aims to allow the safe return of hundreds of thousands of displaced individuals in both Israel and Lebanon, who have endured more than a year of relentless missile attacks.

The ceasefire agreement also guarantees that Israel will maintain a military presence along the border and reserve the right to retaliate if Hezbollah launches any future attacks.

Additionally, the deal obligates the Lebanese army to take active steps to remove Hezbollah from the border area as the group moves further north of the Litani River, thereby limiting its ability to continue its daily assaults on Israel.
