Iran is preparing to take action in response to Israel, according to Ali Larijani, a senior adviser to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, who made the statement in an interview with Iran’s Tasnim news agency.

Larijani indicated that Iran’s forthcoming response will be aimed at re-establishing “deterrence,” although he did not elaborate on the specifics of the action.

The senior Iranian official also rejected Israeli claims in the interview that Israel had severely diminished Hezbollah’s weaponry during military operations against the Iranian-backed terror group in Lebanon, humorously questioning, “So where are the weapons coming from? Mars?”

On October 26, Israeli fighter jets targeted Iranian military assets in a strike that came just weeks after Iran launched around 200 ballistic missiles at Israel.

Reports from late October revealed that Ayatollah Khamenei had directed the Supreme National Security Council to begin preparations for a possible retaliatory strike against Israel.

An Israeli military official later informed CNN that Israel had reached a “high level of readiness” for any possible response from Iran.

In a recent statement, Iran’s President Masoud Pezeshkian suggested that Israel’s actions regarding ceasefire negotiations in Gaza and Lebanon could impact the “type and intensity” of Iran’s retaliation against Israel’s recent attacks on Iranian positions.

“If they reconsider their behavior, accept ceasefires (in Gaza and Lebanon) and stop killing the region’s oppressed and innocent people, it may impact the type and intensity of our response,” he asserted.
