President-Elect Donald Trump’s son in-law, Jared Kushner, is expected to play a pivital role in the next administration’s Middle East policy, despite not holding any official role, CNN reported Friday, citing regional diplomats and Trump allies.
One source told CNN that Kushner will be “fully available” as an advisor to those in official roles handling the Middle East, and expressed optimism that Kushner’s influence could help continue the progress started during Trump’s first term in office.
Kushner aims to further build on the Abraham Accords, which normalized relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, and a few other countries during Trump’s first term. While the war in Gaza and Lebanon has tested ties between the countries, and relations are as warm as when the accords were signed, the Abraham Accords have held despite significant pressure.
Following the controversial end to Trump’s first term, Kusher and his wife Ivanka moved to Florida, and had said they planned to stay away from politics. Kushner is currently running Affinity Partners, an investment fund backed by Gulf sovereign wealth funds.
Earlier last week, Yisrael Hayom reported that Kushner was advising Trump regarding his cabinet nominations, in an apparent reversal from his public comments.
