The Republican Party secured a majority in the House of Representatives on Wednesday, positioning the GOP to control all three branches of the federal government once President-elect Donald Trump takes office in January.
The Associated Press announced that Rep. Juan Ciscomani’s (R-Ariz.) win in Arizona’s 6th Congressional District will bring the GOP’s House seats to at least 218 in the upcoming Congress, with nine additional races still awaiting results.
Since Election Day, Republicans have successfully gained six seats in the House, while Democrats have managed to flip just one.
“They said it couldn’t be done. But the American people have spoken,” stated National Republican Congressional Committee Chairman Richard Hudson (R-NC) following the announcement of Ciscomani’s victory.
Hudson continued, “As Chairman of the NRCC it has been my mission since day one to hold our House majority. Today it is clear that we accomplished that mission.”
