Vice President Kamala Harris, who failed to secure the presidency, and outgoing President Joe Biden are both expected to personally reach out to President-Elect Donald Trump on Wednesday to acknowledge their defeat.

NBC News has reported that Harris will likely make a public statement, though the timing remains uncertain. According to two aides, one of them revealed that Harris’ speech is anticipated to take place around 6 pm (4:30 am IST). At the same time, the 60-year-old vice president is said to be working on preparing her remarks.

As noted by Breitbart News, Harris did not address the crowd at her watch party at Howard University on Tuesday evening, as further returns signaled a surprising victory for Trump. Instead, she opted to leave and go home.

Cedric Richmond, who co-chairs Harris’ campaign, confirmed her absence, as her supporters began to leave in disappointment.

NBC News also mentioned that Biden intends to call Trump today and make a public statement regarding the election results, as confirmed by a White House official. The exact timing of both the call and Biden’s address is still unknown.

The Daily Mail observed that Harris’ silence may reflect her underwhelming performance in the race. Currently, the vice president appears set to perform worse than Hillary Clinton did in the 2016 election, and could even be on track for the worst Electoral College outcome for a Democrat since the 1988 election.
