Israel’s military has accused Hezbollah of hiding hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold beneath a hospital in Beirut. Despite targeting the group’s financial infrastructure, the military emphasized that it has no plans to attack the medical facility.

Fadi Alameh, a Lebanese lawmaker from the Shi’ite Amal Movement and the head of the hospital in question, Al-Sahel, strongly denied Israel’s allegations. He described the claims as “false and slanderous,” and urged the Lebanese Army to inspect the premises, which he said only contained medical patients, operating rooms, and a morgue. Alameh also confirmed that the hospital was being evacuated. Israel’s military reiterated that it would not target the hospital.

Reuters was unable to independently corroborate the information shared by the Israeli military’s chief spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari. According to Hagari, the intelligence supporting these claims has been gathered by Israel over several years.

In a broadcasted address, Hagari explained that Hezbollah’s former leader, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, who was killed by Israel last month, had constructed the bunker for long-term occupation. “There are hundreds of millions of dollars in cash and gold inside the bunker right now. I’m calling on the Lebanese government, Lebanese authorities, and the international organizations — don’t allow Hezbollah to use the money for terror and to attack Israel,” Hagari urged.

He emphasized that while the Israeli air force is monitoring the location, “we will not strike the hospital itself,” Hagari stated.

Additionally, Israeli Chief of General Staff Herzi Halevi informed troops in Lebanon that airstrikes had targeted around 30 locations tied to Al-Qard al-Hassan, which Israel identifies as Hezbollah’s financial branch. Hagari added that further strikes on Hezbollah’s financial assets would continue.
