Iran’s Civil Aviation Organization announced today that, with the exception of mobile phones, electronic communication devices such as pagers and walkie-talkies are now prohibited from being carried in airplane cabins or checked-in luggage.

As reported by Iran International English, airlines including Emirates and other regional carriers have implemented similar bans after the explosion in Lebanon last month, which involved communication devices used by Hezbollah.

Following the sabotage attacks, Emirates, based in Dubai, became the first airline to enforce a ban on pagers and walkie-talkies aboard its flights on October 5. The airline stated, “All passengers travelling on flights to, from or via Dubai are prohibited from transporting pagers and walkie-talkies in checked or cabin baggage.”

Emirates issued a warning on its website, stating that “such items found in passengers’ hand luggage or checked baggage will be confiscated by Dubai Police.”

The explosions that occurred in September led to the deaths of at least 37 people and left nearly 3,000 others injured across Lebanon.
