Iran has reportedly communicated with Israel through European intermediaries concerning Israel’s anticipated response to Iran’s large-scale missile strike earlier this month, according to Saudi Arabia’s Asharq Al-Awsat.

“The message from Iran to Israel, mostly conveyed indirectly, is that it will tolerate a limited Israeli strike and refrain from responding as it has threatened,” the report said.

However, sources noted that “Iran will have no option but to retaliate if red lines are crossed, particularly if there is an attack on its oil or nuclear facilities.”

Earlier this week, three US and Israeli officials told Axios that US President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are inching closer to an understanding regarding Israel’s expected response to Iran, following their discussion on Wednesday.

The report highlights that while the Biden administration is aware that Israel is preparing a significant military action against Iran, they are concerned that striking specific targets could drastically escalate the regional conflict.

A senior Israeli official informed Axios that Israel’s current plans are somewhat more aggressive than what the US administration prefers.

Nevertheless, a US official stated that “we are moving in the right direction” after the Biden-Netanyahu conversation, while another US official mentioned that the White House felt slightly more at ease with Israel’s plans after the call.

According to the senior Israeli official, the gap between the US and Israel over the scope and nature of the planned operation has significantly narrowed.
