Israel has informed the United States that it plans on launching a limited ground operation in Lebanon, that could begin within hours, a US official told CBS on Monday.

The Washington Post also reported that an American official has said the operation would be smaller in scope than the 2006 Second Lebanon War, which took place after Hezbollah carried out a murderous raid into Israel, and kidnapped multiple IDF soldiers.

The purpose of this reported operation will be to move Hezbollah terrorists away from the border, and destroy the terrorist infrastructure built near the border, in order to allow the 60,000+ displaced northern Israeli residents to safely return to their homes.

This new report comes shortly after it was revelaed IDF special forces were conducting small scale probing missions inside Lebanon, gathering intelligence and reportedly even entering some Hezbollah tunnels.

The Jerusalem Post has reported that it’s sources say Israel has yet to fully finalize a decision regarding the size and scope of a ground invasion. However they do expect the invasion to be limited to southern Lebanon, at least initially.
