A convicted murderer who managed to flee from a Pennsylvania correctional facility last month is believed to have forcibly entered a residence on Monday night. The homeowner, upon discovering the intruder, allegedly discharged seven rounds from a stolen rifle, as reported by sources.
According to information provided by state police, Danelo Cavalcante is now potentially armed, having absconded with a .22 caliber rifle he purloined from the aforementioned dwelling, as detailed by Fox 29 Philadelphia. In East Nantmeal Township, a resident encountered an individual resembling Cavalcante’s description and subsequently discharged a firearm in his direction, as reported by Action News.
The individual matching the profile of the escaped convict hastily departed the scene, leaving uncertainty regarding whether he sustained any injuries, as no traces of blood were found at the location, according to the local ABC station. Following a helicopter sighting of the dangerous fugitive in South Coventry Township, a considerable police presence, including SWAT teams in armored vehicles, descended upon the area.
During the subsequent investigation at the site of the confirmed sighting, authorities discovered footwear believed to potentially belong to Cavalcante, according to the local report. In response to the situation, Pennsylvania State Police issued a reverse 911 call instructing residents of South Coventry, West Vincent, and East Nantmeal townships to take shelter.
State police emphasized that the murderer may possess a weapon and urged local residents to secure their residences by locking doors and windows, safeguarding their vehicles, and remaining indoors in adherence to the emergency alert. It was also stressed that individuals should refrain from approaching the unpredictable criminal and instead contact 911 if they happen to spot him.
In a separate development, it was suggested that Cavalcante, aged 34, might have managed to abscond with a .22 rifle from the residence of the armed homeowner before potentially coming under fire, as disclosed by Action News. The 5-foot-tall convicted murderer had staged a daring escape from the prison on August 31, a mere week after receiving a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of his former girlfriend. His audacious escape involved scaling a wall in a crab-walking manner and traversing the prison roof to attain freedom.
Law enforcement officials released fresh images of Cavalcante on Sunday, where he appeared to have altered his appearance by shaving off his beard and changing attire.
