Chris Christie, the former Governor of New Jersey, seemed visibly irked by being singled out as the sole participant during Wednesday evening’s Republican primary presidential debate to field “the UFO question.”

His reaction was immediate and incredulous, exclaiming, “Come on, man!”

Martha MacCallum, the Fox host, introduced the topic with a touch of the otherworldly, and it was clearly directed at Christie. The question, which began, “Do you believe the recent spike in UFO encounters—,” was met with laughter from the audience. Interjecting, Christie commented, “I get the UFO question? Come on, man!”

Despite the interruption, MacCallum persevered, acknowledging the substantial congressional discussions on the issue in recent weeks. She directly inquired of the former governor, “If you were president, Gov. Christie, would you level with the American people about what the government knows about these encounters?”

Playfully, Christie paused to jest with MacCallum, a “woman from New Jersey,” about her choice of posing such a question to a fellow local “about unidentified flying objects and Martians.” He quipped, “We might have our differences, but we’re not that different.”

Subsequently, he tackled the inquiry as a matter of transparency, elucidating, “Look, the job of the president of the United States is to level with the American people about everything. The job of the president of the United States is to stand for truth.”
