After a month of farhers involving nearly five hundred bochurim, the rabbeim of Yeshivas Ponovezh gathered on Erev Shabbos at the residence of the yeshiva‘s nosi, Rav Leizer Kahaneman, on Rav Hirsch Street in Bnei Brak to determine who would be accepted to the yeshiva for the upcoming year.

This year, a record number of 366 talmidim have been accepted, compared to 342 talmidim accepted last year and 270 talmidim the previous year.

Any talmid wishing to be accepted into the yeshiva must pass at least four bechinos, including one with the yeshiva‘s nosi, Rav Kahaneman, who examines all the talmidim without exception and has managed the talmidim admissions process with great expertise for over twenty years.

During the meeting on Friday, each of the rabbonim presented their summary sheets containing information about the prospective talmidim. Extensive discussions then took place for hours, scrutinizing each candidate individually, ultimately forming the list of talmidim for the following year.

As is the case every year, a significant portion of the talmidim come from Bnei Brak and Yerushalayim, with approximately 120 talmidim from Yerushalayim and a similar number from Bnei Brak. Another fifty talmidim are from Kiryat Sefer, and the rest come from various parts of the country, from Tzefas in the north to Netivot in the south.

Soon, the yeshiva is expected to surpass the two-thousand-talmid mark, a significant milestone.

Yeshivas Ponovezh is approaching its eightieth year since its establishment in 1944.
