Are you traveling with your children this summer? Planning to visit
relatives for the chagim? Would you like to travel as a family but find the thought of it overwhelming?

You’re not alone. Most of us feel stressed and worried about traveling with children. We get overwhelmed at the thought of cranky kids, lots of baggage, and endless waiting in lines at the airport. But it doesn’t have to be like that! On the contrary, traveling and long flights can be quite enjoyable parts of vacations and family visits. How? Do what I do—travel like a minimalist.

Traveling (and life in general) is so much easier when you have less stuff. You are more likely to know where everything is, so you can locate what you need quickly. You are less likely to lose things. If you pack like a minimalist, you can avoid waiting on long lines for check-in, and when you reach your destination, you get to skip baggage claim. Since you won’t be weighed down with excess luggage, you can rent a smaller car for your trip, or you can skip the car rental altogether and just use public transportation.

Yes, even I get tired after traveling for many hours. Everyone does. But traveling as minimalists makes our trips easier, less stressful and less intimidating. There is just no comparison.

One basic rule: no expectations. As long as you are well prepared and have no expectations, traveling with your family can be a very pleasant experience.

Happy travels,

Sara
