The Supreme Court on Friday morning struck down Roe v. Wade, the 1973 ruling that provided federal protections for people seeking abortions, in a 6-3 decision. The ruling – known for months due to a leaked draft of the majority opinion – gives individual states to set and enforce their own abortion laws without running into legal issues due to Roe V. Wade, which allowed abortions during the first two trimesters of a pregnancy. “The Constitution does not confer a right to abortion; Roe and Casey are overruled; and the authority to regulate abortion is returned to the people and their elected representatives,” a syllabus of the majority opinion reads.
