A Letter to the Arizal,
Found in a Hidden Place
The “bookbinding surgeon’s” find is made public
by Israel Mizrahi
A letter, preserved in an unusual way, has revealed new details about the period when the Arizal, Rav Yitzchak Luria, lived in Egypt prior to his fame as a mekubal in Tzfas.
The document had been used as reinforcement for a binding in an old volume. In an era when paper was scarce and binding an expensive process, old parchments or papers were often used as reinforcements and survive to this day.
